swimming help with technique / Right leg injury

by Phil
(Manchester UK)

I have a right leg that is weaker due to injury, when i try to stand from swimming on my back, it will not go down below the water.

Any ideas of ways to overcome this problem

Hi Phil,

Thanks for the question, yes this is a problem but has a simple solution. Whilst on your back put both of your hands over your head so that they are in line with your body and still in the water.

Then cup your hands and pull your arms towards your hips. At the same time bend at the hip, this will cause your legs to sink as you pull your arms.

This is what you call a pivot action. It is a simple back stroke recovery and quite simple with very little practice.

I do hope this helps you, if this doesn’t work get back in contact with me and I'll have a think what else you can try.

Thanks again

Dale :)
