water confidence/ swimming techniques

I am a new swim instructor and teach at a leisure centre. We are not allowed to go in with schools and I have one child age 8 who refuses to take her feet off the floor. She is petrified, how can I do this...

Hi fellow teacher,

I’m sorry you didn’t leave your name...as for your problem have you thought of putting a swim belt on her around her waist. This will give some kind of support when swimming with floats or trying to swim independently.

It is a shame there is no one in the pool I have always worked in the pool, it is so much easier. I can understand why so you have to work with it. It’s nice that you are so concerned that you have written to me. If swim belt doesn’t work try some kind of floatation devise apart from ARMBANDS AND RUBBER RINGS......
There is one other solution to your problem and that is to offer private lessons at another time either yourself or someone else. If she as petrified as you say she is she is getting nothing from the lessons apart from assioating swimming with being frightened. If you did one to one then at least you can get in the pool with her....

Hope this helps if you have any more problems please get back in touch.....
Good luck with the teaching

Thanks again....

Dale :)
